Review:

The Black Canyon River Adventure (Hoover Dam Raft Tours on the Arizona side) delivered a perfect day on the river. The day started with a check-in at their Boulder City location (Nevada). Check-in was smooth. Buses transported us down the Lower Portal Road, which was used by the construction workers to build the dam. From here, you are assigned into one of the large, stable rafts. You are given the opportunity to swim in the river- so you might want to wear a swimsuit, and water shoes for those rocks. There is no changing facility at the swim location, but there are restrooms at the end of the trip where you can change into street clothes. Since you are spending the day on the river- don’t forget: sunscreen (even if it is shady), a hat, sunglasses, camera and of course the very important water bottle! You might want to bring a pair of binoculars to spot wildlife. If you are motion sensitive you might want to consider anti-motion medication. There could be some small waves from the wind or other motorized vehicles that might cause minor rocking.

The tour follows the Black Canyon River Trail where cliffs rise up 2,000 feet, and the opportunities to observe wildlife is plentiful. We were thrilled to be able to see numerous Big Horn Sheep. You are given an opportunity to swim or explore the shoreline. The tour ends at the Willow Beach Marina in the Mojave Desert, Arizona where the shuttle bus will return you to the Boulder City parking. Lunch is provided- and is kept cold in an insulated lunch tote that you get to take home. The guide is excellent at providing a historical overview, spotting wildlife, and identifying unique geological features.

This tour was perfect while waiting for our red eye flight to Boston. It is about an hour drive from Los Vegas so were back in the city around 4:00 pm for dinner, and some walking before heading to the airport.
